چکیده

This article presents an inexpensive, efficient, and electrically-small antenna design that is based on a metamaterial-inspired structure driven by an electrically-small semi-circular loop antenna, which is coaxially-fed through a finite ground plane. The proposed antenna system is linearly scalable over a wide frequency spectrum. The design details and radiation characteristics of the antenna system at 300, 1580, and 6000 MHz are reported. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A Summary of Recent Developments on Metamaterial-based and Metamaterial-inspired Efficient Electrically Small Antennas∗

This paper summarizes our recent research efforts to realize efficient electrically small antenna (EESA) systems based on ideal analytical and numerical metamaterial-based antenna systems, and physically realized metamaterial-inspired antenna designs. Our theoretical and numerical studies of the radiation and resonance behaviors of the proposed metamaterial-based EESA systems, as well as our ef...

Efficient Isolation between Electrically Small Metamaterial-Inspired Monopole Antennas

In this paper, a new electrically small metamaterial-inspired monopole antenna is presented. It consists of a simple square-shaped coplanar waveguide (CPW-fed) monopole with an embedded complementary split ring resonator (CSRR). It operates at three distinct frequency ranges around 2.45, 4.2, and 5.8GHz, with low return loss and uniform radiation patterns, making it a perfect candidate for mode...

Recent Progress on Metamaterial-inspired Antennas

Many attributes of metamaterials have led to the consideration of engineering metamaterialinspired structures for a variety of applications. This includes the miniaturization of resonators and their use for improving the performance characteristics of electrically small antennas from the microwave region up through to the optical region. Achieving higher directivity from electrically small ante...

Passive and Active Engineering of Metamaterial-inspired Electrically Small Radiating Systems

A number of advances in the use of metamaterial-inspired constructs to improve the overall efficiency, directivity and bandwidth performance of electrically small antennas (ESAs) in the VHF, UHF and microwave regimes will be reviewed. Several metamaterial-inspired ESA designs have been fabricated and tested; these measurement results are in nice agreement with predictions. While initial efforts...

Metamaterial Based Multiple Frequency Antenna

Antennas that are electrically small, efficient and have significant bandwidth would fill many needs of new generation communications systems if antenna engineers could reconcile these usually contradictory requirements. The introduction of the so-called metamaterials (MTMs), artificial materials which have engineered electromagnetic responses that are not readily available in nature, has provi...
